I started Fly Kalamazoo in 2004. I have a simple goal of safely sharing the dream of flight and my knowledge, experience with as many people as possible. The idea came about during my career in the airlines. I got into commercial airline flying and realized how much I missed the small plane flying and the freedom that goes with it.

I really enjoy flying with others and sharing the knowledge and skills I have obtained over the years. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment and success to see a new student embark onĀ  a solo flight or pass an FAA flight check for the first time. There is nothing quite like it for both the student and I.

Great Website! First I have seen it. Very happy to see you operating right here in Kalamazoo. I’d like to stop in and see your operation, and possibly rent one of your aircraft. I graduated from WMU Flight Program in 1967, obtained my ATP in Lear’s, taught flying with Kal-Aero, flew aircraft for Stryker, and on-occasion, for Upjohn. Ended my Corporate flying career with a company that built the Alaska Pipeline.

What you explain to potential students about the ups and downs within the flying field are so true and they need to know that when starting out. It can be a great life, but have something to fall back on. Even with the pitfalls that are sure to appear along the path, flying is the greatest way to become personally responsible for yourself and others. Nothing compare with that “First Solo!”

Congratulations and best of luck with your operation.
